History

The origin of Agra goes back to the golden era of the great epic ‘Mahabharat’ where it is mentioned as ‘Agraban/Agravan’ (an integral part of the Braj Bhumi or the land of Lord Krishna). Whereas the historians outline the origin of Agra to 1475 A.D., the reign of Raja Badal Singh.

However, Agra came into the limelight during the rule of Afghan King Sikandar Lodhi – who had made it the capital of his empire. Later in 1526 A.D., the Mughal Emperor Babar took upon himself the task for rendering Agra, a unique character and beauty of its own. From the rule of Mughals, Agra never look back and became the home to today’s marvellous wonder- The Taj Mahal.

Visit Taj Mahal

If we say that Taj mahal is not known by Agra but Agra is known by Taj mahal, it will be the justice to the impressive mausoleum of Begum Mumtaz, the lady love of Shahjahan, who built the iconic structure in the memories of his great love for his beloved. Taj Mahal has spectacular & mesmerizing colors when visited during the sunrise or the sunset when the beauty of Taj mahal can be seen at its best. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the wonders of the world.

Fatehpur Sikri

Today’s abandoned Fatehpur Sikri was one of the great cities built by Emperor Akbar under his kingship. It is said that the sonless Akbar had gone to Sikri to seek blessings of Sufi Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, and he was blessed with a son, and after that, he built his capital city and named it Fatehpur Sikri, however, due to the scarcity of water, he had to abandon this beautiful city, and the ruins of the city narrate the history to date. Fatehpur Sikri is located approximately 50 KM from Agra heading towards Jaipur.

Mathura/Vrindavan

Located approximately 58 Km before the home of Iconic Taj, here we have the birthplace of Lord Krishna or Sree Krishna Janma Bhumi. Mathura and the area around it, including Vrindavan, are linked with the childhood days of Lord Krishna. It is an important pilgrim place of the Hindus and one of the seven sacred cities in India.
