History

Jim Corbett National Park was named after James Edward Corbett, more popularly remembered as Jim Corbett, he was a documented hunter and a naturalist. It is the oldest National park in India. It was established in 1936 as Hailey Park to guard the endangered Bengal tiger and was later named after Jim Corbett. It is located in Nainital district and Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand and covers a total area of 497 square miles.
