History

The history of Goa is very diverse and goes long back in time. The explorer Vasco da Gama first discovered India and under his guidance, the Portuguese arrived in Goa in 1498. The Portuguese rule lasted for about 450 years and influenced Goan culture, cuisine, and architecture. In the year 1961, Goa was freed from the Portuguese rule and was made a union territory in India. In 1987, Goa was granted statehood. Currently, it an Indian state and is the favourite destination for tourists.

Palolem beach is also known as the white sand beach in Goa. Lined with palm trees, it is one of the most beautiful beaches to visit. Baga beach and Anjuna beach are situated at a distance of 3 km from each other and both are epitome of beauty. Along with the beaches of Goa, there are markets to visit and beachside shacks to relax.

Adventure sports

The adventure sports of Goa are very well known in the country. People will visit the beaches to try different kinds of adventure sports activities. Dona Paula Beach is popular for windsurfing, the mornings at this beach are perfect for beginners while winds get stronger with the afternoons. Dinghy sailing is another water sport that one should try at this point. Scuba Diving in Goa is the most loved sport by visitors. Other water sports activities that can be done are water-skiing, angling, and parasailing. If you are not into water sports, you can go for small treks or just go cycling around the towns.

Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it represents the ancient architecture of Goa and the essence of the age-old traditions. It is also the most visited Church in Goa. It is known for holding the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier revered as the ‘Apostle of the Indes’. The place has some beautifully carved statues, doors, and columns. There exists a modern art gallery inside which features over 30 late twentieth-century paintings.
