The homeland to spirituality and peace! When we think of Rishikesh, all we can think of is yoga and temples, right? Well, there is much more in Rishikesh and wait till you discover it. Every time you visit Rishikesh, you will get a different experience.

The city is rightly called the gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas as it opens up the doors to the Himalayan Shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, also called the mini Chardham.

In 1960s, The Beatles (renowned rock band from England) came to Rishikesh to learn and practice yoga. Their songs & stay promoted Rishikesh in the world map as an ultimate destination for yoga and got the name Yoga capital of the world.

History

Rishikesh is lavishly sprawling over the suburban area of Muni ki Reti or the ‘sands of the sages’.

Legends say that Raibhya Rishi who made an intense Tapasya (austerity) here to please Lord Vishnu, felt so much into the serenity of Rishikesh that later he stayed here and practiced Yoga. After Raibhya Rishi so many sages, monks and famous spiritual personalities used this place for yoga and meditation.

Today, the yoga capital offers a wide range of activities for different needs of travelers, be it is the peace, nature, adventure, or the perfect escape for the weekend.

Ganga Aarti

The Ganges is one of the most important aspects of Hinduism and has a great place in our lives, so do its worship. Ganga Aarti is a worth witnessing event where you can see thousands of diyas enhancing the beauty of the ghats & the Mantras chanted will be soothing not only your ears but the soul.

Camping

Camping is an experience which one can cherish for long! A perfect way to feel the warmness of nature by disconnecting yourself from the outer world. Start your day with the chirping of birds & end the beautiful night by stargazing.

Trekking

A day is well spent when you are close to nature! If this is you, then Rishikesh is a place for you to get close to nature. There are many treks available near the Rishikesh. One of the famous mild treks is to Neer Garh Waterfall, located approx. 12 Km away from Rishikesh.

Explore The surroundings

Rishikesh is the land of the Hindu deities, and when you are here, do not miss the chance to visit one of the most famous temples dedicated to Lord Shiva that is Neelkanth Mahadev, located approximately 12 Km away from the city of Rishikesh. It is said that this the exact place where Lord Shiva had the halahala (poison) came out of the churning of the ocean (Samudra mantra or Amrit mantra), and from here he is known as the Neelkanth.

Apart from that here, you can visit the ashrams where many of the spiritual personalities got solitude in this holy city including the Swarg Ashram & Beatles Ashram.

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport located in Dehradun, approximate 20 KM away from Rishikesh. The road is in good condition. Some of the flights fly on regular basis from major cities including Delhi & Mumbai.

By Train

Dehradun & Haridwar, are well connected by train, and is one of the most comfortable mode of transportation.

By Surface

Rishikesh is well-connected via surface from Delhi, NCR, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh. It is located approximate 225 Km from Delhi and the roads are motorable.
