History

The history of Jim Corbett National Park is as interesting as the terrain of the park. Jim Corbett National Park was named after James Edward Corbett, more popularly remembered as Jim Corbett, he was a documented hunter and a naturalist. It is the oldest National park in India. It was established in 1936 as Hailey Park to guard the endangered Bengal tiger and was later named after Jim Corbett. It is located in Nainital district and Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand and covers a total area of 497 square miles.

The National Park is now a very popular tourist sport with Jungle Safaris operating almost throughout the year for spotting the tiger. Tourists also visit the place for a leisure stay and for enjoying themselves amidst nature.
