Udaipur

Udaipur: Often called the Venice of the East, Udaipur is one of the beautiful cities, and considered as the jewel of Rajasthan. Udaipur is surrounded by man-made lakes and edged in by the lush greenery of Aravali Hills.

Udaipur gives the perfect gateway to explore the heritage, culture, & nature in one place. Once you are here, you will be so mesmerized by the beauty that you will already start thinking of your next visit.

History

The white city of Rajasthan was founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1553 and was considered as the new capital of the Mewar kingdom after moving from Ayad, which had served as the capital of Mewar between 10th to 12th centuries.

It is said that the Ayad was flood-prone, and therefore, the king thought of shifting his new capital city to the ridge east of Pichola Lake. While hunting in the foothills of Aravali, he met a hermit who blessed and guided him to build a palace on the spot, assuring him it would be well protected.

Being located in a mountainous region, Udaipur remained safe from the invasion of Mughals & other rulers despite much pressure.
